If you use those words, you should be okay.

We expect people to use at least high-school-graduate vocabulary, grammar, and syntax, and that's what you're using here.

Yes. If we didn't have Moderation running, they or anyone else would be able to get the old edits out of the page history. This is just an extension of that.

At least your bad days don't manifest as snarly, snarky lashing out. (He said, trying to look innocent and failing.)

Yes, it is always fine give them copy of their original edits. If need be, it can be posted in a downloadable text file (and you can give them a private link to download it, many services exist for this purpose.

We don't have pages for any of the other Star Trek shows since Enterprise.)

It’s a vexing problem. It’s hard to jump from a redlink to a well developed article. To compound this, many series are written as works pages (Rather than Series Pages) that are amalgamations of various works into a single page, rather than their individual works.

Shame lower decks is ending. It had some interesting ideas, though it was understandably not every trekkies cup of tea.

Wikis are gone again.

Yes, all of them.

I filed the last ticket. Bob filed the one before. Labster, it's your turn.

EDIT, two minutes later: Never mind - the public wikis are back.

I got 504s for about a minute somewhere around 1:30 or so. Something's definitely up, so file that ticket anyway. The wikis shouldn't vanish unexpectedly, however briefly they do so.

ATT and KanriKyara were both MIA and SOL for just as long as it took for me to post about it in "My Apartment Manager" and come here. The hell is going on that the wikis completely vanish for just a few minutes at a time so frequently?

Just a reminder, since I see an edit to a YMMV subpage in the moderation queue and I don't have time to look at it right now...

YMMV pages list people's opinions. We don't remove people's opinions without saying why.

Just replied to a new user with the oh-so-delightful screen name of "Spinosaurus Jizz"...

Quote:Moderation usually takes days, and we do not guarantee even a 72-hour turnaround. Send ing a mod a message after five minutes after making the edit does not speed the process - in fact, it slows the process beccause we have to answer questions instead of doing things like moderating edits.

So, yeah, no need to rush that edit through the queue.

Oh, for god's sake.

HLIAA14YOG is at it again, spewing more bile than usual and declaring outright that the film Barbie is evil.

Considering the invective directed against identifiable people, I'd say this is a violation of ATT:1WAY. And it isn't the first time.

And this time he's posted text that easily can be read as libellous (at least under Canadian law).

We need opinions that don't match those of the majority of tropers. We do not need legal headaches.

I'm putting him On Notice, pending a discussion. Tempban or permanent ban? I see no viable third option.

He's been tempbanned before, and we've stripped his automod/autopatrolled bit from him how many times already? If he hasn't learned by now, he's not going to. Permban.

Since I don't know the hate speech laws in the USA, is he in violationof this subsection of Miraheze's Global Conduct Policy?

He was already put on notice, last month. One-week tempban with possibilities of further sanctions.

I confess I'm very disappointed. I had hoped he'd have taken my friendly warning to quit spewing bile and keep a civil tongue.

Since he cannot, I support sterner measures. I'd like to put forth a rule modification for reviews stating that while strong opinions are fine, they should avoid naked hatred and be rendered in a civil and dispassionate manner.

As for whether his comments are a violation of hate speech laws under U.S. law, no, but just barely. Vile and mean yes, but his opinion, vile as it is, does not demand the incitement of violence against the targets of his ire, merely his contempt.

We need to post this proposal on the wiki for review and voting by the community. That said, I certainly support and second it.

I did ask couple stewards, who labeled it "bullshit" and "repulsive", but nonetheless not violating global policy.

Honestly I think the worst part about the review is just how plain uninformative it is. I would say it's only about 15% chance he watched the movie (5% chance all the way); it really didn't seem to resemble anything beyond attacking a cast list on IMDB plus some other people who aren't connected to the movie at all. Superficially it kind of looks like a review, but I don't think it's actually a review of the movie. I'm kind of tempted to delete it for being off-topic.

That's kind of my M.O. in general -- often the offensiveness is a distraction from a deeper problem. This is a propaganda piece disguised as a review. It's a movie about dolls ffs. The emasculating jokes about Ken go back generations, was the movie supposed to not cover that territory? If they had watched it all the way through, wouldn't they talk about the "I'm Just Ken" dance number at the end which is literally about the ways the men are marginalized and forced to conform to masculine stereotypes. There were things to say here on masculine identity, but instead it's calling the director names.

I was, after we held the vote on the proposal, going to suggest we open up to the community whether to keep or delete this review in particular and maybe all of HLIAA14YOG's frothing, bile-spilling reviews, but this is more direct and more in line with our past policy actions.

Methinks he might be a bit oversensitive about something. <grin> In my experience, this kind of overreaction is typical of incels and men who are terrified of the very idea of intelligent, capable women -- the same kind of loser who gets deep into hucow, lobotomy, bimbofication and similar porn genres, who can only feel like a man if he turns women into farm animals.

As for the poster of the so-called "review"...

Since this isn't the first time he's been tempbanned, I propose that he remain On Notice once the tempban ends, and that he be clearly made aware of that fact that another violation of any of the wiki's core policies will result in a permanent ban.

No more chances. No more letting him game the system. (Whether he knows that's what hes doing or not, it is what he's doing.) He's had two strikes already -- three strikes and he's out.

As much as I hate to toss out someone who can be productive, I am forced to agree. There are many works we cover I despise, many of which I have deeply partisan opinions on. Regardless, the rules we commonly agreed to require me to stick to facts only when disparaging their flaws, and for the common benefit of fostering harmony in the community, I am also required to be civil in registering my distaste. Ad hominem and naked seething spite for the real people behind the works in question is not useful or conducive to this goal. And even if the repugnance of the IRL artists is directly responsible for the poor quality, that is no excuse to stoop to their alleged level in order to criticize their work.

We have given this user more chances than TV Tropes would to moderate their tone in line with the same level of courtesy and keeping their feelings in check, and I agree the time has come to let them know they are on their very last chance.
