Is your computer a desktop or laptop?
If you have a laptop, and can demonstrate the problem to the people at the genius bar, I've found them to be very helpful in ferreting out the root cause. Or failing that, to replace the device.
If you have a desktop, I fear I can't be nearly as helpful.
