NC Governor suggests suspending elections 'for the duration of the crisis'

I've heard it claimed -- although it may simply be an urban legend -- tbat Nixon asked the Rand Corporation to study the feasibility of cancelling the 1972 elections because of the "youth unrest" (and got told, essentially, "are you insane?").
