Potter
A rather interesting one-shot, with the premise of "What if Sirius Black had allied with Voldemort?"

Not sure if this has been recced previously or not.

"From the Ashes", is a Mass effect... and Fallout crossover.

I am currently reading chapter 13 with a fair amount of glee.

Just ran into this. The Senshi File: Silver Warden is a Dresden Files/Sailor Moon cross with an interesting premise. Only the first chapter, but it'll wet the appetite.

mass effect. what if not the Turians but members of the Migrant fleet first encountered the Human civ. (5 chapters at the moment.)

It's a little jingo-istic, but still fun.  Humans+Quarians are not OP, but definitely put a new spin on things (carrier tactics, you know).

It lost me when the Quarians told the humans they wouldn't be big meanie heads like the Council and stop them from monkeying around with relays because there's nothing like the fucking rachnai on the otherside of them or anything.

The same character has Ciaphas Cain and Commander Shepherd Blame the Eldar which is a reasonably amusing crossover.

Extremely clever rendition of a Child!Harry POV story.

It's Green

Starts around age 6/7 (and written very well from the viewpoint of an intelligent child that age). Still pre-Hogwarts at 40 Chapters and 100K + words but the narration and clever use of First person/third person POV and Original characters means it seems you hit the current chapter too quickly.

Harry does seem a little smarter than he should be, but not overly so. And he doesn't come across as a 20 year old in a child's body. Very unique use of magic - something *almost* completely new, that on reflection, seems perfectly in-canon. After all, Voldemort had to have come up with the idea for his 'Dark Mark' from somewhere...

I'll see if I can find the author.  I think the intent was that the Quarians wouldn't shoot the humans for trying to open a relay...  much like the Turians would without politely asking that they stop for their own sakes and everyone else in the region and never minding that they are utterly unaware of the dangers.  Pretty sure the Quarians would do something to stop them, just not outright violence as a first or even second action.

For me, the Quarian parts were problematic, but not too bad. When the Turians showed up, grabbed the villain ball and ran with it? That's when I gave up on it.

A recent web-wandering lead me to a collection of darker reinterpretations of Disney's Mulan.
First, Mulan makes a deal with a different sort of spirit guide.Next, Mulan is the vengeful spirit.A crossover with the Princess and the Frog. And finally, something with something closer to a happy ending.

No, I don't believe the world has gone mad.  In order for it to go mad it would need to have been sane at some point.

A story that may have been recomended some time ago but is new to me: As the Sun, an Azula as the Avatar story.  It has recently completed and has an epilogue posted separately as Radiant.

I am going to second this, its quite well done.I will admit to a slight  fondness to stories that let Azula earn her way to redemption and a happy ending.

Deathly Hallowed by Shujin HP / mild Cthulu mythos cross (8Chapters so far).http://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/ ... hp.257104/
Has a very nice blend of horror that rings true of Cthulu without being especially graphic. Be sure to make your SAN rolls.
You can also find on FFNet.
For a change of pace, an interesting new story.Muv-Luv: Breaking the Tide by HitokiriOTDhttp://www.fanfiction.net/s/9291917/1/
Author has a very nice Naruto fic that got as far as 9 chapters, Tempered in Water. Hope this means the author's come back to the writing scene.

Seconding this one, and will follow with great interest.
Now for a Robotech rec, and one of the older fanfics that I know of.
The Freeman Chronicleshttp://www.fanfiction.net/s/9280373/1/T ... ChroniclesBasically, take the McKinney version of the Robotech story (before anyone even heard of Shadow Chronicles) and drop a few wrenches into the works. It's been on the internet for some years, but this is the first time it's been on FF.net.  I't slow to start and occasionally dives deep into Weber style exposition, but it is quite good in the end.

Seed Chronicles

The Prodigal Son: Young Justice cartoon AU with bits of other continuities here and there.  Superboy broke out of Cadimus without the other young heroes showing up, has spent a few years under Lex Luthor's influence, and now goes public for the first time as the Justice League lies broken and Metropolis is threatened.  Connor's POV and the fight sceens have been exelent to this point.  At chapter 5 we are just starting to get into the revelations and character interactions with Superman and the League and how that is handled will be the make-or-break factor for this story.

Then the horns kicked in...
...and my shoes began to squeak.

I'd like to rec Harry Potter and the Forests of Valbonë. It's a survival/adventure fic, that takes place in the summer following Harry's second year at Hogwarts. It draws some small amount of inspiration from Hatchet, if I don't miss my guess, and does a remarkable job of worldbuilding, in describing the Albanian forest that Harry (and the Sorting Hat) are stranded in, its history, and the surrounding area, among other things. I really highly recommend it, it is a very good read.

Dual Wielding - Fate / Stay Night by Thrythlind.  At the end of the Fourth Grail War, Arturia is splashed by the grail, effectively becomes Saber Alter, and remains in this world.  Come the Fifth War, Shirou has this black knight as a very stern big sister figure, summons a different servant, and all the other servants are either different people or have different classes.
