All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXIX
RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXIX
It's still at least partly down -- autocomplete isn't working. I'm saying ticket time, since I first saw this more than a half hour ago.

We're still getting the autocomplete failure and pink search error box, 16 hours later. Has anyone submitted a ticket for this yet?

I just did. https://issue-tracker.miraheze.org/T12260

EDIT: I've already subscribed all of the mods.

And it's been added to another ticket reporting the same problem on another wiki.

Lint errors: I finally spotted the error on "Bad Liar". ("'''<span>lots-and-lots-of-text'''</span>" instead of "'''<span>lots-and-lots-of-text</span>'''") That fixed an entry on Misnested tag with different rendering in HTML5 and HTML4 (now at 1 error that I still can't find), Stripped tags (now at 71 errors), and Missing end tag (now at 13579 errors, and yes I did that on purpose).

RE: All The Tropes Wiki Project, Part XXIX
I just saw an email reporting that the issue has been resolved in my inbox, but I haven't gotten onto the wiki yet this morning, so I can't confirm that.

Regarding missing end tags, over the years I've seen so many blocks of italicized text starting with two apostrophes and ending with a double quote that I have long wondered if there was some systematic error in the original scrape or in something we did to the scraped data in the process of creating the fork...

You know that big cloud of templates that we have at the end of every single edit page? Can we take "color" off of that cloud until such time as that template is fixed, please?

I have no idea how to check page histories on TV Tropes. Could somebody check this new-page edit, which has the edit reason "ported page i wrote on tvtropes", and make sure the TVT version only has one editor, please?

It's legit, I checked with my TVT account.

Thanks, Geth. It's now approved.

I have to wonder whether we just picked up a troll. One doesn't normally start one's troping by proposing a new trope, after all. Never mind the misogyny in the page making it highly unlikely that it would ever pass a launch vote.

Anyway...

I wrote my rejection post on the assumption that it wasn't a troll.

EDIT: Oh, and he saw fit to send me a Foe request, completely ignoring the first sentence on the page he would have needed to visit in order to do so. (Why do we even have social messaging functions on the wiki?)

In case folks don't see the blatant page banner...

Quote: Planned brief downtime
There will be emergency maintenance on July 5th, 2024 at 00:00 UTC. This maintenance will likely last until about 00:30 (about 30 minutes), but could last a bit longer. During this time all wikis and other Miraheze services will be completly unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience.

That's 20:00 Eastern Time on July 4. I hope whoever's doing the work is getting at least time-and-a-half.

Is there any way to search for a particular edit reason? Special:Search doesn't appear to have that option, even if I search "Everything".

I have occasionally created redirects with the reason "Redirecting the Real Life term to the cutesy TVTropes name", and now I have a Sandbox page to list them on which will eventually become a Useful Notes page once it has more meat on its bones. But I never kept a list of these redirects anywhere.

To my knowledge, no.

The edit reasons, while in theory are on the "client-side" (what the public sees), the edit reason is more meant to be viewed as part of an individual page history than a publicly searchable string.

You might be able to try finding it by experimenting via the Special:ApiSandbox page, but not sure what query would return the results you need.

Maybe just go on the Miraheze Discord, then search in #global-wiki-feed.  Summaries show up there, though you may get some false positives from other wikis.

I don't know of a way to do it inside the software.  It wouldn't be too hard to write an extension to do it, they literally are just stored in the `comment` table as text (and apparently hashed to deduplicate, learned something new today).

EDIT: A search for "cutesy TVTropes" gave only 3 articles: Novikov self-consistency principle, Deadnaming, and Shm-reduplication. It looks like the channel has data back to 2018.

Well, we're an hour into this half-hour planned outrage... er, outage. (Sorry, flashback to The Usenet Oracle there.) I hope things haven't gone completely belly-up, and that whoever fixes things gets double-time instead of time-and-a-half.

Things are fine. The DC did this on their schedule, and brought the servers back up, but this doesn’t automatically restore service in our setup. And the devops on call didnt have all the access he needed, but that’s been addressed.

Thanks, Labster.

As long as "make sure you have the rights you'll need to get the service, not just the server, running again" goes into the procedure document, no worries. (There's always a "lessons learned" bit in any upgrade or major maintenance.)

I don't know what's causing it, and I can't figure out how to fix it...

The second section on Kyonyuu Fantasy/Characters/Antagonists. "Prefect Irboyne", is being treated as part of the first section, "Prince Bobon von Diamante". This appears to be what's causing the remaining "Misnested tag with different rendering in HTML5 and HTML4" Lint Error on the wiki.

I've tried putting another section between the two sections. It was treated as part of the first section as well.

I tried replacing the entire page content with a single line that didn't have any page sections in it at all, waiting a few seconds, and replacing the old text. The problem came back with the text.

I've scanned the text for non-printing characters that might be causing issues. There are none.

Is this a software issue? Do we have to file a bug report with the MediaWiki folks in order to get this fixed?

Sounds like an internal issue worth reporting. Wikitext is rendered to the clientside in regular HTML, and ordinarily, it tries to covert the MW parser language to a sensible HTML equivalent. Unfortunately, if there is some crossed wires on the backend and they are using outdated HTML practices to do the conversion somewhere, that could explain it.
