Quote:In 2008, NPR producers Bob Boilen and Stephen Thompson were attending a South by Southwest festival performance by Portland folk artist Laura Gibson. Frustrated by how loud the audience was, the two joked that Gibson should just play at Boilen's desk at their Washington, D.C. offices. That joke quickly turned into a reality, as Boilen soon booked Gibson to play a 15-minute, stripped-down set for him and his colleagues, tucked in a corner with shelves of books, CDs and records behind her.

More than 1,000 performances later, NPR's Tiny Desk concert series has become one of the most important stages for live music, albeit one of the smallest. It has introduced music fans to incredible emerging artists and hosted some of the world's biggest stars in equal measure. It has also welcomed many Canadian artists over the years, from Grammy-winning stars to the cast of a popular Broadway musical.

Below, CBC Music has selected 20 of the most memorable Tiny Desk performances by Canadian artists.

No, I'm not going to list all 20 links in this post. After all, 20 quarter-hour videos would take five hours to watch. See the list and links here.

That's an odd, random selection of stock footage in that video. A ruined house somewhere in the American midwest, from the look of it? An elderly woman in traditional Ukrainian (?) clothing? An image of anti-malarial medicine while the narrator is talking about penicillin? A medieval manuscript under narration about a WWII-era doctor's journal?

And where did this story come from? I tried looking for more information on it, but there doesn't appear to actually be a "Sainte-Moreau" in France (the only "Moreau" I've found is in the southwest near the Bay of Biscay, not the northeast near Belgium), and no combination of search terms I tried get me anything that looks like the story as it's presented here. The description on the video's YouTube page is dramatically lacking any references at all.

Yes, it has all the credibility of "some guy on the internet said" and "cool story, bro." That's why it's here instead of "odd stuff in the news" Tongue

EDIT:

If you know the difference between Big Joe Mufferaw and Paul Bunyan, you'll understand this one from 1979. (Yes, I am bringing the Canadian content of this thread up a notch.)

RE-EDIT: The one above and this one are pretty much all you need to know about old-timey Canada.
