No, that wasn't a question.

Grab a towel and pour yourself a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster because The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is 42.

Not dead, not completely rum soaked, but...
JUst thought to drop all a post since I was so tied up in pre trip stuff, including having to un bugger my laptop the night before didn't really have time to post or anything.

Now, on to Cape Canaveral and Disneyworld

This seems so wrong... but it seems so accurate, too

Sunday, March 8, is International Women's Day.

This year, in much but not all of North America, it's also the day we shift to Daylight Savings Time.

Which means that, in these places, this year women get approximately 4.2% less commemoration than other identifiable groups do.

(Actually, it isn't accurate. The gender gap is usually much wider than that.)

Looks like it'll be updated irregularly, from DMM's notes.

Just thought folks would like to know.

Producers postpone release of 007 film No Time to Die

Quote:Together with 007 producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, studios MGM and Universal announced Wednesday that the next Bond instalment will not open next month as scheduled "after careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace."

Instead, the film will be released Nov. 12 in the U.K. and Nov. 25 in North America, with other worldwide release dates to follow.

Also:
Bucking the trend, the IOC is unwavering on Tokyo Olympics starting in July.

  Random Encounters

Just for fun, here's a place to list folks who could be dropped into (almost) any Step or Stagger. Bonus Points if Doug meets more than one at the same time Smile

To start off the thread... I was looking at recent edits on All The Tropes, and I noticed that the first example in the "Literature" section of "Love Transcends Spacetime" begins:

Quote:Near the end of E. E. "Doc" Smith's last Lensman novel Children of the Lens, Kimball Kinnison is thrown outside the space-time continuum.

And then there's Jenny Everywhere.

So that's two possible encounters... Any more?

  COVID-19 & US healthcare system

So the virus has finally reached our shores with the first case of unknown origin in California and the possibility of several more cases out there thanks to the insistence of the administration in bringing people from the affected zones without proper quarantine procedures in place or even the appropriate equipment.

The president* yesterday called for a press conference where it seems he was hoping to and I quote “try to the kill the virus with pure incoherence,” and naming Vice President Mike Pence who when he was governor managed to enable an HIV outbreak, and until as recent as 2000 was still writing articles denying a link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer.

That makes me feel secure. But then again, we are witnessing the apotheosis of 40 years of conservative philosophy with regards to government, which for one led to the dismantling of the CDC pandemic response teams.

I pray that this doesn’t get worse.

  Computer Advice Request
Posted by: Jinx999 - 02-27-2020, 01:34 PM - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (6)

I recently got a brand spanking new computer. Runs Windows 10, for compatability sake. And, unsuprisingly, it has a couple of little quirks that are REALLY REALLY annoying. And googling as not given me the answers.

1) I can't get the monitor out of sleep mode. Even mashing keyboard buttons, moving the mouse AND turning it off and on again doesn't work. I have to reset the entire computer. I've "solevd" this by telling the computer to never put the monitor to sleep. Is there a better solution.

2) It takes longer for the router to boot up than the computer. so the computer, bless it's idiotic little brain, starts trying to diagnose the connection problem automatically. How do I stop it from running "troubleshooting" automatically.
