Spontaneous rhyme for a freind having a very bad day
Posted by: classicdrogn - 09-22-2023, 08:05 AM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

For a friend who is having a special day
even if it's not the good kind
do your best in your own way
to show that you love sharing their time

I don't know who else may need to hear this, but remember that there can't be any more good days if there are no more days, and the sun still always goes down on a bad day eventually. If it's someone on this board, I check here every few hours at most and am at least willing to be ranted at in PMs if you feel like that will help.

Canada accuses India of extralegal killing

CBC: Trudeau accuses India's government of involvement in killing of Canadian Sikh leader

TL;DR: The murdered man was a Canadian citizen, who was saying things that the Indian government did not like. Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced in Parliament that he had been informed of "credible allegations" that the Indian government was connected to the murder.

If true, then it makes me wonder when - not if - they'll do the same thing in other countries.

Fables (comic series) IP declared public domain by creator

Fables Intellectual Property declared public domain By Bill Willingham, the creator

Appears to be the end stage of a blow up with DC Comics

(Somewhere in England Alan Moore is raising a toast)

(Edit:  Intellectual Property is declared Public Domain, not comic (DC still owns those as Rob pointed out)

One piece at a time, of course.

The Register: Long-lost 1977 Star Wars X-Wing prop discovered – lock s-foils in bid position

So if you've ever wanted to own a Colonial Viper, or Captain Kirk's TOS uniform and toupee, or a... no, let's not describe the stuff from Flesh Gordon here... now's your chance. Assuming you have enough money to bid on them, of course. There's a link to the auction catalogue in the article.

I had reason to look at the Member List, and discovered a side-effect of Bob's linking our old Yuku accounts to the current forums. While I'm member 23 for just these forums, I'm member 42 once the Yuku accounts are taken into consideration.

Just how many pop-culture references should one person have attached to them? Smile

Not dialogue, not a picture, not an awesome quote, but I still want to share
Posted by: classicdrogn - 08-31-2023, 04:17 AM - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

So over on QQ the funny pictures thread got derailed for a bit with another iteration of "immprtality would suck/but think of all the awesome parts" discussions that pops up in fiction forums like Unicron vs. the Death Star in fandom-related ones, and I eventually teal deered it like this (after sveral edits for exact wording):

Extroverts: Can't understand why anyone would want immortality when everyone you know and love will leave while you live on.

Introverts: Can't understand why anyone would shun immortality when it means that you can just wait a while and everyone who keeps pestering you will leave.

For a quippy shitpost mostly aimed at hoping to end the derail by making it too ridiculous for continued argument, it's developed a lot of staying power in my brain and keeps feeling far more profound than I ever expected.

Non-embedded

Hands up, who here (besides Bob) knows what this is a reference to.

As to why it's here, I seem to recall a few displacees with acting aspirations.

The Dead Dove Locker -- "I don't know what I expected."
Posted by: Mamorien - 08-18-2023, 05:36 PM - Forum: Other People's Fanfiction - Replies (33)

May God forgive me. May history judge me charitably.

(06-28-2023, 09:29 PM)Once upon a time when pigs were swine, Your Humble Narrator and like droogiwoog Wrote: (I've sometimes thought of launching a thread just for fics that a forum member wants to recommend but recognizes might not be to literally anyone else's taste: a Dead Dove Locker, so to speak.)

And now, I have an excuse a reason to launch such a thread, as one such series that I follow has updated.

ErikModi Wrote:As a young girl, Sarza Zarazell was shipwrecked on an abandoned planet, only an old holocron to guide her. Now an adult, Sarza is on the cusp of completing her training as a Nue Jedi Knight.

Inspired by Haara Brightwater's D&D fanfic "Vow of Nudity." Using Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars RPG rules.

That's the summary for Escape from the Lost World, the first part of his series The Naked Jedi (which I discovered via TheSunGodNika, creator of Bare Squadron's Pyso family, linking it from his Discord).

https://archiveofourown.org/works/48416170

That's complete at five parts, and the five-part sequel, A Galaxy Exposed, launched today, as Sarza, her escape accomplished, "learns about the state of the galaxy and the Jedi Order" from a fellow Force-sensitive on the first ship she encounters.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/49439338

The main series page, which is what I actually subscribed, is here: https://archiveofourown.org/series/3603481

Note: the Nue Jedi follow the "Passion, yet serenity" version of the Jedi Code, and that passion is shown in detail. Tags common to both extant stories are "Rape/Non-Con, Original Characters, LitRPG, Public Nudity, Nudism, The Force, Inappropriate Use of the Force, [...] A Girl and her Droid, Embedded Images, NSFW Art". So far, that first tag has been thankfully limited (a Force-trial entity that briefly overcame Sarza, but from which she was able to reclaim control), and the others have been within my acceptable limits, but there's a reason one labels the bag "Dead Dove: Do Not Eat" before one puts it in the fridge.
