Something that cropped up while in chat with Terrence earlier this evening. What if a university field trip to the phalanx gets a little lost. A group of students find the door to the "Impounded Supervillain Armor Storage Locker" ajar and sneak in. They try on random bits of armor, in an attempt to find what looks "cool." As they are parading around in a nearby room striking poses, a very harried official mistakes them for a new batch of hero recruits, and runs them through the registration process.
When the dust settles, they're out front of City Hall with their purloined gear and a hero registration in their hands.
The challenge: Build an SG whose members have powers and abilities that don't mesh, look like they were thrown together haphazardly, with no regard for min/max performance, or even reason. Ancillary powers that clearly don't make sense. Plus a look that just screams "randomizer button mash." This group forms an SG dedicated to surviving their horribly bad luck while they try to sort the mess out. And maybe along the way, save the world.

Electricity vs Magic? |

StackExchange: How can electricity not work at Hogwarts?
The question was asked because nerves and brains use electricity.
The best answers look at the source material and point out that it isn't electricity that doesn't work, it's mundane applications of electricity that "all go haywire around Hogwarts, there’s too much magic in the air" (Hermione, in Goblet of Fire).
So... I assume (and seem to recall a statement from Bob) that Doug's helmet is protected against EM interference. That should provide protection against magical-field interference, too.
Or am I way off-base here?

Army Of Tigers - Jonathan Young - 4:01
There is one enemy that no one has the courage to destroy
She sends us cataclysmic cancer from her castle in the void
She blinds our children, burns our skin
Dries our crops and rivers thinned
You already know her name
Yeah, I'm talking bout the sun
Against her no one's ever won
But I've got a plan so we can win, yeah
I command an army of tigers
Fight on land and sea and sky
Quench the final fire
Extinguish heaven's light
I command an army of tigers
Defeat the sun tonight
Since our creation we have suffered this disease that you call day
But with my mighty feline army I will find a better way
If we work hard and persevere
There is nothing we should fear
It's our faith that makes us strong
Nothing that we can't achieve
If we only just believe
What could possibly go wrong
I command an army of tigers
Fight on land and sea and sky
Quench the final fire
Extinguish heaven's light
I command an army of tigers
Defeat the sun tonight
I command an army of tigers
Fight on land and sea and sky
I command an army of tigers
Fight on land and sea and sky
Quench the final fire
Extinguish heaven's light
I command an army of tigers
Defeat the sun tonight
Power - Summons multiple tigers under Doug's control that follow his commands, but by default they are obsessed with killing the sun until given other orders. The tigers can fly and breath underwater.

I made a transcript of an interview with Toshimichi Suzuki, BGC's creator. |

Or to be more precise, I did the back half of it from a scan by some guy who posted it to the usenet forum about BGC over a decade ago.
Anyway.
It's really interesting, especially when Suzuki waxes cynical about the future economics of OVA's in the mid-90's (by the end of the decade the format was dead, but Suzuki seemed to think the slump he was in would be undone. Poor bastard). Certainly there are parts where he's talking out of his ass about planning for Crisis, but those are interesting too.
Seriously, read this!

It's snowing here. Not unusual for Ottawa in winter, but we're looking at 1-2 feet of snow today. The record for snowfall on January 17 in Ottawa has already been broken, and it's still snowing. Environment Canada has declared a blizzard.
Highways are closed. COVID vaccination centres are closed. They cancelled the weekly gardening phone-in that hasn't been cancelled in years. People are being told to stay home.
And I just looked out the window, and can't tell where the snowplow went by a couple of hours ago.
Good thing I have shelf-stable food for a few days.
EDIT: Apparently, it's just as bad in Toronto and Montreal.
